Game 11

by on Apr.12, 2008, under Recaps

Finally, we got to see that high octane offense we’ve heard so much about. The bats showed up in a big way, Frenchy’s in particular. I think it goes without saying, if we score this many runs every game, we should win a few. But, after all, we were playing the Nationals, and lots of runs are to be expected.

Smoltz continues to prove he is still one of the premier pitchers in the game, period. Today was no exception. He went six innings, scattering five hits, allowing only 1 run. He only threw ninety pitches, so as we get deeper into the season, as Smoltz builds up a little more endurance, he should go deeper and deeper into games. Oh, Smoltz’s ERA on the season, a cool 0.82. Ohman was less than stellar. He walked 2, gave up a hit, and only managed to get one out. Bennett came in to put out the fire, didn’t allow a hit, but walked one. He may be returning to the starting rotation, I hear. Boyer pitched a solid 8th, allowing only a walk. Acosta pitched the ninth, gave up a hit and that is all.

The bats were the big story today, and I do mean big. Frenchy was in the zone launching not one, but TWO home runs, driving in 7 runs. Oh, he had a third hit just because. KJ had a pretty good day at the plate as well with 2 hits, one a double and a run scored. He still hasn’t drawn a walk, which is really something we need our lead off hitter to do. Also, with three hits, McCann. One was a double one, another a home run. The “hittin’ fool” Matt Diaz also had two base knocks, one of them a double. The Braves banged out 13 hits and scored 10 times. Wow.

Tomorrow’s game, 1:35 PM. Not Nationally televised.
