Braves Report

Game 17

I love it when things work. We had good pitching from what has become an unlikely source, Chuck James. We had good hitting from what has come to seem like an unlikely source, Tex. Can’t forget, we had good relief from what one can only consider an unlikely source, the Braves’ pen.

Chuck James was (once again) called up from Richmond. Going into this season, very little was expected from him. He had what was considered a sub-par season last year. During the off season, we learned he had a mild tear in his rotator cuff. He missed the first part of spring training and opened the season in the minors. But, an injury ridden pitching staff brought him back to the majors. His first outing was, well, not really good. This outing was different, this outing was better. He needed just 69 pitches to get through 5 innings. Honestly, he probably had another inning in him, but better safe than sorry. He only allowed 4 hits, one run, and had a lot of pops on the infield. After that, the game was left to the pen. Campillo pitched another 2 innings. This guy has been one heck of a call up. I wonder who will be sent down when someone comes off the DL. I doubt it will be him. Boyer had another solid outing, only allowing a hit. Acosta continues to wipe the memory of his first outing from peoples mind with a save.

Tex finally seems to be breaking out of his doldrums and if that is the case, watch out! Tex had 2 hits today, one was a double, driving in 2. A few more game like this and he won’t be batting .221. Blanco had another good outing with 2 hits, he’s batting .385, subbing for Diaz. Kotsay also to notched 2 hits with an RBI. I think its worth pointing out the #1, #2, #3, #4 hitters each scored a run. At least today, when the top of the order got on, they got driven in.

Tomorrow’s game, 1:35 pm on TBS.
