Game 56

by rlgv on May.31, 2008, under Recaps

The Braves lost on the road. The Braves lost a one run game. The Braves lost in extra innings. What’s next? Will I learn the sun rises in the east? The sky is blue? A frog’s behind is, in fact, water tight? This whole thing is getting pretty old.

Yeah, so I plagiarized my first paragraph from yesterday, but seriously, does it matter?

What an ugly game. Jurrjenns didn’t have it from the get go, giving us, quite possibly, his worse outing of the season. He threw 40+ pitches in the first and the reds batted around. In the end, he only managed 4.1 innings allowing NINE hits and SIX walk. Oh, he also gave up six runs. A very poor outing, but so far they have been few and far between. Ring pitched a very effective 1.2 innings, including stranded all the runners when he came in with the bases loaded. Bennett then gave us 1.1 innings, very effective. Ohman and Boyer each got a batter out. Here is where things started to go down hill. Soriano allowed the tying run to cross, then Acosta the winning.

Even with the poor pitching, the bats gave us every chance to win and for a time, it looked like we were. KJ lifted his batting average up to .300 with two hits. Tex launched a a three run home run with one of his two hits. Chipper reached base five times with thee walks and a hit. Finally Frenchy had two hits, one of which looked like was going to be the game winning home run.

Braves lose (again) in extras, 7 – 8.

Tomorrow’s game 1:15 PM. Not nationally televised.

Glavine pitched an outstanding game and has nothing to show for it. That seems to be happening a lot to him as well. Glav went 6 innings, only giving up five hits and two runs while striking out five. Again, that should be enough for a “W” almost every time. Ohman was great. He pitched 1.2 innings only giving up a run. Acosta was also great, going 1.1 perfect innings. Bennett, did a great job too. One perfect inning. Ring, who probably won’t be around much longer, pitched to three batters, didn’t get any out and allowed the winning run to cross.

Part of the reason for the loss, Chipper and Tex were a combined 0 – 9. Heart of the order just didn’t get it done tonight. KJ had another good night with two hits and a run. McCann is now officially the hottest hitter on the team. He had two hits, one for a double. We really need to take the next two.

Braves lose, 2 – 3 in extras.

Tomorrow’s game, 3:00 on FOX.

Game 54

The Braves breezed to and easy victory today, which was nice. If Tex starts hitting, like he did today, the Braves will abruptly find themselves the best team in baseball. Tex will see better pitches to hit, Chipper will start seeing better pitches to hit. (Not that he is doing badly now). Anyway, I’m about ready for this lineup to start producing like we all know it can, not this amazing one day, poor the next crap.

Campy was awesome, again. How did this guy not make the team out of spring training? In three starts, he has given up one run, ONE! I don’t think it gets too much better than that! He is sitting on an ERA of .99. His line on the night, five innings pitched, four hits, one run, six strikeouts. Once he gets over this blister problem, he’ll be able to get deeper in the game. The pen had another great outing. Scoreless inning by Bennett. Boyer pitched .2 innings scoreless. Acosta 1.1 innings scoreless. Most importantly, the return of Rafael Soriano! He also pitched scoreless inning.

The bats had a good night tonight, Tex in particular. Tex drove in four runs on two hits, one of them a three run home run. It was nice to see a team getting hurt after walking Chipper to get to Tex. Quite a few other Braves had good nights at the plate. Escobar had three hits and scored (glorified utility infielder my ass). KJ had two hits, scored a run and drove in two. Chipper lifted his gaudy average with two hits. The Braves pounded out 12 hits and walked 11 times.

Braves win easy, 8-1.

Tomorrow’s game, 7:10 PM. Not nationally televised.

Forum Updated – Pardon our progress

by rlgv on May.29, 2008, under Site News

The Forum was recently updated to Zetaboards. Please pardon the mess as it may take us a few days to get everything looking the way it was before the update. Rest assured, the most important part, the discussion forums are still fully operational, so post away!

Thank You,

Game 53

by rlgv on May.28, 2008, under Recaps

Well this was a disappointing, yet interesting game. The ump gave both pitchers a VERY generous strike zone. It made the pitchers very happy, both who pitched very effectively. But, it made the hitters very unhappy. The two teams combined for only seven hits. The climax of the hitters frustration came when a pitch well outside was called a strike on McCann. McCann expressed his displeasure. The umpire didn’t like it, McCann stepped out to “tend to his batting gloves”. The ump told the pitcher to throw the ball, McCann didn’t step in and a strike was called. It wasn’t really professional of the ump to do that, but he was within his rights.

Jojo got tagged with the loss after what can only be called the best outing of his career. He went seven innings and only allowed two hits. Its hard to believe you can lose a game only giving up two hits. But, since we didn’t manage to score any runs, it can happen. Jojo also struck nine along the way. Boyer came in for the eighth, and promptly allowed the winning run to cross.

Not much to report from behind the plate, but that happens when the zone is as wide as it was tonight. In fact, no Brave had an extra base hit and no Brave had more than one hit.

Tomorrow’s game, 1:05 PM. Not nationally televised.
