Game 29

Filed under: Recaps — rlgv @ 10:32 pm

Our injury riddled pitching staff got a big boost last night from Huddy, and Reyes did everything he could to try and keep up. Of course, Reyes’s work cannot be overshadowed by the bats coming to life. If we get pitching like this every game and hitting like this every game… Well, we just won’t lose anymore games this season.

Jojo got called to Atlanta for the first time this season after making a mockery of the hitters in AAA. Before the game, the announcers commented Jojo just needed to be Jojo. He needs to realize he is a good pitcher. Perhaps he did tonight. He went 5.1 innings, he could have probably gone longer, but the Reds started running on McCann and it really got him out of his rhythm. After that, the pen was outstanding, all of them. Bennett came in after Reyes to get one out. Then, Ohman did the same. Campy went an inning, as did Boyer and Resop. Not one of them allowed a run to cross the plate (or even a runner to reach base).

The bats really should have been the story of the game, in the 7th inning they busted out in a big way. Kelly Johnson reached base twice and scored twice. Escobar had three hits, scoring twice. It seems when our #1 and #2 hitters reach base, they get driven in. The hottest hitter in baseball, Chipper, notched 2 hits, scoring once and driving one in. Also in the hit parade was Tex. His two hits lifted his average to .274. McCann and Frenchy each had two hits. The Braves banged out seven doubles, nearing a franchise record (9) for one game.

Tomorrow’s Game, 1:05 PM. Not nationally televised.
