Game 30

Filed under: Recaps — rlgv @ 5:20 pm

Last few nights the Braves won largely due to their pitching. That wasn’t the case today, today the bats did all the work. They pounded out 19 hits, drove in 14 runs, 6 doubles and 2 home runs. That is what is known as an offensive onslaught. Now they need to keep it going.

Chipper continues to be a one man wrecking crew (well, wrecking opposing pitching at least). Today was no different. He had three hits, one a double, one a home run. He drove in five for the day. Chipper, clearly, wasn’t the only one feasting off Reds’ pitching. Pretty much everyone (except Tex) had a hit. KJ may finally be waking up. He had 4 hits, three for doubles. He scored twice and drove in 2. Kotsay, batting second today, lifted his average over .300 for the first time this season. His three hits, one a home run, drove in 3. He also scored three times. McCann had 2 hits, one was quite possibly the longest single in the history of baseball. Blanco continues to show he deserves to be here, with 2 hits.

It really looked like Glavine would get his first win today, but it was not meant to be. It seems his little stint on the DL cost him a little endurance. He was cruising until the fourth, then he just couldn’t get a strike across, and when he did, it was smashed. He ended up going 4.2 innings and gave up 6 runs. Ring got the win, only throwing one pitch. It’s good work if you can get it. Campy gave up a run on 2 hits. Ohman went an inning, didn’t allow a run. Boyer was perfect for an inning. Acosta pitched the ninth, perfectly.

No game tomorrow. Tuesday’s game, 7:10 PM. Not nationally televised.
