That was some fun baseball to watch. You have great pitching from Jurrjens, you have great hitting from the bats, you even had some great defense sprinkled in there for good measure. Hopefully this isn’t another “hot streak” that leads to another “disappointing streak”. I really believe this is the “real” Atlanta Braves, we need to see more of this team.
Who could have known what kind of pitcher we got in exchange for Renty? I was one of the many people disappointed to see Renty go. I’m still disappointed, but I am extremely happy with what we got in exchange. Jair has been absolutely fantastic. With today’s six inning performance he improved his record to 4 - 2 and lowered his ERA to 2.84. Not bad for someone who was billed as our number five starter. In his six, he allowed seven hits, but struck out a career high 8, only allowing one earned run. Ohman let two runs cross on two hits. Boyer went an inning and was amazing, no hits, no walks, no runs, two strikeouts. We truly had closer by committee tonight. Three pitchers in the ninth, each got an out. Acosta got the first out, but when 2 runners reached, Bobby called in Ring, our lefty specialist. Ring got a huge strike out and turned the game over to Bennett. Bennett ended the game, getting his first save.
We didn’t exactly overpower them with our hitting, but it was timely. After SD scored in the first, the Braves answered back in the second with two of their own to get right back on top. Escobar had two hits and scored once. Here’s a surprise for everyone, Chipper swung the big bat of the night, a two run home run (after that, they walked him). Kotsay had 2 hits, a home run, drove in 2 and scored twice. All that to go along with a sparkling defensive play in the field.
Tomorrow’s game, 7:00 PM. Not nationally televised.
