Game 35

Filed under: Recaps — rlgv @ 11:04 pm

This is getting really annoying. We leave Atlanta, play some of the worst teams in baseball, and get our heads handed to us. It’s just not right! The Pirates have the worst ERA in the NL, and we only manage two runs per game? That is just unacceptable. In order to challenge for the post season, we must beat up on the lousy teams.

James pitched better than his line score shows. He was one pitch away from completing a scoreless sixth, and couldn’t get it done. He really did have good stuff tonight. He allowed only 5 hits, and struck out a nice seven. He got victimized by a horrible call by the first base ump, which allowed an extra run to score. The ump was in position, had a clear view of the play, and just botched it. No other way to put it, he called safe when he should have said out. The very next pitch was deposited in the right field seats. Lucky (I guess) that, in the end, it didn’t factor in the game. Campy went two innings, held them scoreless, but the bats just didn’t have their hearts in this game.

The Braves had plenty of opportunities this game, with seven hits and two walk, plenty of base runners. But, poor clutch hitting and FOUR double plays, well, I guess you see what I am saying, you just can’t push runs across hitting into that many double plays. Infante was on fire, in fact he has been since coming of the DL. He had three hits tonight. Tex is teasing us again that he is coming out of his slump, but I don’t believe it (yet). He had two hits and drove in both the runs.

Tomorrow’s game, 1:05 PM. Not nationally televised.
