Game 43

by on May.18, 2008, under Recaps

Maybe, just maybe, we are starting to get a little stability in our starting rotation. Jurrjens has been nothing by reliable, Jojo may be starting to believe he belongs here. Huddy, Glavine are doing well on the front end. But, the big surprise has got to be the pen. They got off to a shaky start, but have unhitable lately. If only Tex would do SOMETHING, maybe we could get on a little winning streak, the pitchers are giving us a chance to win almost every game.

Jojo didn’t have as good of stuff as he did the last couple outings, but he battled and made the pitches when he needed to. Including pitching out of a bases loaded, none out situation in the second. Jojo only managed 5 innings and gave up eight hits. Not a stellar line, but when you look deeper, all his outs (but one) came on ground balls or strikeouts. Again, he kept the walks to a minimum, only two. It was good enough for the win. The pen continued its great work, four more scoreless innings. Bennett gave us two, only two hits. In came Boyer, gave up a triple, but nothing else. Split duty in the ninth as Ohman got out one batter and Acosta closed out the game.

A little bit of a mixed bag with hitters today. We did get 11 hits, but the runs came early and then again late. Through the middle innings we did get runners on, but just couldn’t push them across. Escobar has been feasting since he moved to the top of the order, going three for four today, with a run and two RBI. Blanco also had two hits and scored. Tex continues to be a worry, but he lifted his average with a 1 for 4 performance.

Braves win this one, 5 – 2.

No game tomorrow. Day night double header Tuesday, 1:05 PM & 7:10 PM. Neither game nationally televised.
