Game 44

The Brave got back to a little ABC baseball today. Until the seventh, all the runs were driven in by singles and sac flies. Throw in a bunt and a couple productive outs, great pitching, and you’ve got a nice Braves win. While sitting around waiting for the three run home run is nice, it’s good to know when it doesn’t happen, the Braves can still score runs.
Tom Glavine was the Tom Glavine of old. He was untouchable. He was limited to six innings today. Perhaps he is coming back on three days rest? He only threw 82 pitches, 54 for strikes. He only allowed three hits and one earned run, a home run in the first. His ERA is back under 4. The pen was outstanding, again. Ohman when 1.1 innings of perfect ball, striking out three of the four he faced. Boyer pitched .2 innings, only allowing one hit. Acosta pitched ninth, non save, and didn’t allow a run.
As I said earlier, the Braves did the little things right. Glavine getting the bunt down, sac flies by Escobar and KJ. Escobar continues to thrive in the lead off spot, two hits today, one for a double and an RBI. Tex had a nice game (I refuse to say it “means” something) with three hits, an RBI, and a run scored. The biggest bat of the night belonged to McCann. His two hits drove in three runs, including the two run shot in the seventh.
Braves take the first game of the series, 6-1.
Next game starts as soon as the rain delay is over. Not nationally televised.
