Sorry for the delayed recap, but sometimes real life interferes. I know, its not fair, but that’s just the way it is.
This game, the phils didn’t win it, the Braves lost it. They had ample opportunities to break the game open. They committed errors, the made (several) mistakes on the base paths, of course horrible hitting with runners in scoring position didn’t help. This game was won, had it not been for a KJ error on a very simple play.
Huddy pitched a great game against (statistically) the best offense in the NL. Anytime you have hold the power house phils to only five hits and one run over 7.2 innings, that is a great outing. Sadly, the pen and the defense let him down. Ohman did what he does and got out a couple lefties, not allowing a hit. Boyer was brought in to close, apparently Soriano was not available. He pitched .2 innings, blew the save, gave up two walks and a run. Acosta (what has happened to him, he had been amazing this season) came in and threw gas on the fire. Two its later, the game was all but over. Ring and Carlyle each pitched .1 innings, uneventfully.
The bat left 21 men on base, (13 team left on base). That is just unacceptable, especially against the first place team. We had ten hits, but they were scattered. Only Chipper (of course) and Blanco managed more than one. McCann hit a long home run in the sixth.
Braves drop it in extras, 3-4.
Today’s game 7:10 PM. Not nationally televised.
