Game 64

Filed under: Recaps — rlgv @ 6:23 pm

Well, does that make 3 games in a row the pen and the bats ruined a great outing by a starter? I don’t think you can ask much more from Huddy, Jojo and Campy than what they did the last three outings. Huddy gave up one run, Jojo two through seven and Campy only three. With only that information, how many game would you have thought the Braves won? Of course, in a lot less innings, the pen gave up just as many runs. This is something that needs to get fixed, or we don’t have a prayer.

Campy wasn’t at his sharpest, but with the exception of the first he did a great job of limiting the damage. He pitched into the sixth allowing only three runs on seven hits. If it wasn’t for a long first inning, he probably could have gone deeper into the game, but 105 pitches is a lot for someone who didn’t really plan on starting this season. It does show he is starting to build up some endurance. Carlyle was called in to finish the sixth, which he did. He walked the first batter he faced, but no damage. Ohman continues to be brilliant. He threw two perfect innings. Boyer was a disaster. He took a tie game and put it out of reach. On the bright side, he did manage to get a batter out (one of five that is). Four hits, thee runs and a walk was his line. Acosta relieved Boyer, walked one but didn’t allow a run to cross.

The Braves bats have been shut down this series. Except Chipper, who was out this game with a slight tear to his quad. The only thing colder than the bats is the bats with runners in scoring position. Braves batters left 18 on base, with 10 team left on base. Escobar reached base twice, including a double and a run scored. Tex is really starting to warm up. He had three hits today, one a two run home run.

Off day tomorrow. Tuesday’s game 8:05 PM on WGN.
