I’d call this a heart breaker, but it wasn’t. I’d call it disappointing, but at this point… But, let’s be honest, injuries have destroyed the line up, and crushed the pitching staff. We are missing our center fielder, our left fielder, Prado, and our .400+ hitting third baseman. From the start of the season, we have lost Smoltz, Hampton, Glavine (at some points), James (due to inability to get people out), Soriano and Moylan. There are not a lot of teams that could sustain thas much of a loss, and apparently we are not one of them. We were hanging tough for awhile, but they just kept adding, and adding up, with Chipper being the final blow. Hopefully he will be back tomorrow, but judging by his AB today, he looks like he is still in a lot of pain.
The bats just kept battling back, but the pitchers just giving up more. The game got off to a good start, Norton hit a three run blast in the first to give the Braves a three run lead. After that, the Braves had plenty of hits. Escobar had two, walked once, and scored a run. Norton had two hits, drove in three and scored twice. Infante also had two hits, including a triple.
Bad news on the pitching front. Glavine is going to miss his next start with a strained elbow. Before the elbow strain he pitched three innings, giving up six hits and four runs. What really hurt him was the four walks. The game was then turned over to Carlyle, who in three innings gave up only one run. Acosta insured the game was put totally out of reach. In his 1.2 innings he gave up 5 runs (one earned) on four hits. Stockman ended the game, still sporting a 0.00 ERA.
Tomorrow’s game, 8:05 PM on ESPN.
