It seems the Braves are going into games now expecting to lose. Wren said the other day that he is starting to have a Pavlovian reaction to his phone ringing, its never good news. The constant drip, drip, drip of bad news has got to affect the teams psyche. Regardless, the team has got to find a way to win, no matter what. But, seriously, who ever heard of losing a game on a HBP? That is just nuts. You’ve got to work hard to lose that way.
Huddy was brilliant. When I had to turn off the game to head to work, I thought, “Well, Huddy was our stopper, that’s good.” Then when I got out of work, I discovered I had been wrong. Huddy went 6.2 innings, giving up 7 hits, only one walk and only one run. I’m not sure why he was pulled, since I was at work, but it looks like his pitch count was up there. Once again, in a close game, the pen could not hold. Some pitched well, some (the usual suspects) did not. Campy pitched to one batter, got him out to end the seventh. That’s how depleted our staff is, a starter has to pitch from the pen. Boyer blew another save. He went 1.2 ineffective innings, where he gave up 2 hits, a walk and an earned run. Ohman closed out the inning for Boyer and struck out the only batter he faced. Acosta was once again tagged with the lose after two walks and a hit. Ridgway hit the only batter he face, a run charged to Acosta.
The bats, were once again, left in the bus. I guess we really underestimated the value of Kotsay and Diaz in the lineup. KJ had a great day, three hits, two for doubles. McCann had two hits of his own one for a double. He also scored half the Braves runs, one. Frenchy drove in both Braves runs with a home run. Once again the left on base numbers were troublesome. Twenty-four runners were left on, 14 team left on base.
Brave lose in the 11th, 3 – 2.
Tomorrow’s loss, I mean game, at 10:05. Not nationally televised.
