Another day, another loss, unfortunately. The Phillies’ dominance of the Braves at home continues, as they added another sweep to their record. Mind you, this was a team that had lost 6 straight series, dating back to right after they swept the Braves a few weeks ago. But now they’ve won 16 of their last 21 against Atlanta, including the last 7 match ups.
So, here we go. Jurrjens was okay, but worse than his usual self. He went 7 innings, gave up 8 hits, 4 earned runs, of which 3 came from solo shots. He walked one, and struck out 6. Decent, but he still recorded the loss. Ohman relieved him, and was brilliant. He went an inning, struck out Howard, and didn’t allow anybody to reach base. Gonzalez came in a non-save situation and was perfect. He recorded a strikeout.
Despite this performance from the pitchers, this game was lost on the offense. They provided one run of support, and only managed 5 hits. These consisted of a single by Infante and doubles by Blanco, Escobar, and Chipper. McCann also had the only RBI of the game, ending Cole Hamels’ 23 2/3rds scoreless inning streak, with a double in the 9th. This late comeback meant nothing, however, as the Phillies took the game and the series.
Braves drop this one, 4-1, and are on a 5-game losing streak.
Tomorrow’s game, against Houston, is at 7:30 PM. Not nationally televised. Hopefully the ‘03 Braves show up.
