After Sunday night’s 17-inning affair, a more tranquil game would be a nice welcome on the west coast. This game was close, but the Braves were able to overcome. Even though Hiroki Kuroda had the audacity to try and throw a perfect game, the team ended this pipedream with 6 outs to go. Unfortunately, the game was already lost by this point.
I’ll start with pitching. Campillo had a decent line on any other day, with 7 IP, 5 hits, 3 ER, 2 K’s, and 3 walks. These runs all came in the 5th inning, 2 from a shot by Nomar (his second of the year), and the other was scored through smallball. Vladimir Nunez, a face I don’t ever recall seeing, followed with an inning, perfectly, whilst striking out 1. That about does it for the pitching staff.
Now, what to say about the offense? Well, it took them 7 innings to get a hit. This came from Tex, who hit a solid double up the right field line. Fittingly, he was stranded at third before he could score. Another word on him, he was very impressive defensively at first base today. He saved a few runs by saving some bad throws. As for everyone else, nobody was able to reach base. Kuroda threw a complete game shutout 1-hitter, striking out 6, with only 91 pitches. The Braves’ offense seems to be making the same mistakes that they have all season (not working the counts, not getting runners over, etc.), but who am I to comment on the subject?
Braves get 1-hit, 3 – 0.
Tomorrow’s game, at the inconsiderate time of 10:10 PM EST, is not nationally televised.
