Braves Report

Game 95

by BenMurphy on Jul.18, 2008, under Recaps

Ha! Nobody thought they’d be able to do it, but for the first time in more than 2 weeks, the Braves have put together a winning streak with their win over San Diego on Sunday night. This puts them at 45-50 entering the break, and now 6.5 out of first. If this offense can stay consistent, this team might have a real shot.

So, here we go. Campillo had a decent outing, he lasted 6 innings, allowed 5 hits, 2 runs, walked 2, and struck out 4. This was good enough to get him the win. Boyer followed with an inning, allowing a hit. Hudson came on in the 8th in a relief appearance, and worked a perfect inning. Gonzo came in for the non-save situation and allowed 2 hits, one of them a home run. He also struck out two. Not what we typically see from him, but he didn’t exactly blow the game.

The offense was really the story of this game. It seems like this team has been accustomed to scoring a lot one day, and then getting completely shut down the next. That wasn’t the case, as they were able to muster 12 runs across the plate, and came up with 16 hits, 3 shy of their season record. These hits came from every single starting position player, except for Chipper. Tex had two doubles including one that scored 2. The All-Star, McCann, went 3 for 3, a home run, a double, a single, and 3 RBIs.

Francoeur had a single. Kotsay had two hits on the night, one an RBI single. All this amounted to 12 runs, including a 5-run 6th inning. Solid effort, indeed.

Braves win big, 12 – 3.

Tonight’s game, against the Nationals, at a sane time, 7:30 PM EST, in Atlanta, is not nationally televised.
