My point is, there's got to be some sort of foundation for this team, or else you'll see a mediocre club. But then why not keep Smoltz in the process? As of right now, the Braves are basically in the same boat as last year, minus a team captain. They wouldn’t even be competitive. Even then, you’re still banking/relying on Lowe to sign and be good, that Jurrjens won’t slump, that Vazquez will be decent, and that Kiwi won’t get eaten alive in the MLB.

My point is, there’s got to be some sort of foundation for this team, or else you’ll see a mediocre club.

They hit the dumps. The psychological effects will be bad at first, but the Braves have to learn how to deal without Smoltz. It was going to happen soon anyway. The sooner, the better in my opinion.
