Game 21 – Cardinals 5, Braves 3

by on May.02, 2009, under Recaps

I still dislike the Cardinals. Wednesday night was just more of an indication why. Vazquez pitched really well, but the Cardinals had to go and spoil it in one inning. Despicable.

As you’ve probably guessed, Javier Vazquez started this game, and was pretty good. With the exception of one rough inning, he was phenomenal: 8 innings, 9 hits, 5 earned runs, a walk, and 8 strikeouts. Had the 5th inning ceased to exist, he would be looking at a 3-1 record.

But, sadly, it wasn’t meant to be. That inning actually did happen, and he didn’t have enough run support in the end. Soriano relieved Javier in the 9th inning, perfectly, with 2 strikeouts.

The offense was okay this game, pushing 3 runs across the plate on 8 hits. The first run came from an Omar Infante single, his first of three hits on the night. Francoeur singled in a run in the next inning, part of his two hits. Finally, Jordan Schafer would be walked in for his third RBI on the year. Other notables are Casey Kotchman, who had a double and a single, raising his average up to .303. This seemingly has happened out of nowhere, but he’s been consistently good lately. Very nice going. Chipper also had a single, but it didn’t really matter in the end, there just wasn’t enough offense.

Braves lose, 5 – 3.

Next game: Friday vs. Astros.

7:30 PM EST. Lowe vs. Hampton.
