Braves Report

Game 51: Braves 9, Phillies 3

by BenMurphy on May.31, 2010, under Recaps

First to worst to first. If the season ended today, the Braves would finish their no-post-season drought. But obviously, it won’t, but this does give some real hope toward making a run for Bobby’s last season. This team had an incredible May, let’s see them keep it up. But first, let’s look at how they got there.

Tommy Hanson got the nod today and he gets my nod for the day. He pitched pretty damn well: 6 and 2/3rds innings, 3 hits, a run, 3 walks, and a pair of strikeouts. Moylan relieved him, but had some trouble, as he gave up 3 hits and 2 runs and had to be relieved by Jonny Venters before recording an out. Venters pitched another inning without incident. Jesse Chavez came in the 9th and gave up a walk before ending the game. Overall, good.

The story of the day really has be more about the offense, who have averaged 6 runs/game in May. They started early and didn’t look back, with Chipper awkwardly knocking a shot over the right field fence in the 1st.

Awkward
Hey, it works.

Troy Glaus hit a 3-run shot in the 7th, his 8th of the season. Other than that, Eric Hinske drove in 2 runs on a single and a fielder’s choice. Yunel Escobar also drove in a pair of runs on a single. In total, 9 runs on 11 hits. It was a good day. Now, stay in first.

Braves win, 9 – 3.

Next game, 7:10 PM EST vs. the Phillies on Peachtree TV and ESPN.

Tim Hudson (5 – 1, 2.24) vs. Cole Hamels (5 – 3, 3.82).
